About the Forum

Objectives

The objective of the Forum is to identify, discuss and resolve key issues surrounding the introduction of Chip & PIN within the Hospitality Industry and primarily to:

  • Address what hospitality users thought their issues were and resolve as many as possible.
  • Help the card schemes and acquirers understand some of the hospitality industries ways of working.
  • Help marry hospitality ways of working with the Chip & PIN requirements.
  • Ensure the suppliers, the card schemes, acquirers and card issuers understand the need for environmentally friendly devices in the inhospitable environments in an establishment, where protection from liquid damage is needed.
  • Encourage the EFT suppliers to deploy a number of Chip & PIN devices within a single establishment to accommodate the variety of environments.

The procedures and hardware requirements in hospitality are significantly different to retail. We felt that the combined force of representatives from across the industry would help achieve workable practices and procedures and would guide hardware suppliers in the design and compatibility of devices and solutions, for hotel, club, bar and restaurant use.
